What Is The Cortisol Test?

A cortisol test is done to check the level of cortisol hormone in the blood. The adrenal glands produce cortisol. Cortisol has many duties. It helps the body to use sugar and fat for energy. Cortisol levels can be disturbed by many conditions, such as physical or emotional stress, infection, or injury. Generally, cortisol levels go high during the early morning hours and are highest at about 7 a.m. They drop very low in the evening.
