About Total IgE
Total IgE test is also known as quantitative IgE, and its formal name is Immunoglobulin E. In response to the perceived threat the immune system produces IgE. There are five types of IgE. They are A, G, M, D, and E. it usually is present in the blood. Total IgE test is used to measure the amount of IgE in the blood. They are produced by plasma cells. It is also used to detect an allergic response rather than a specific allergy in the body. IgE is associated with allergic reactions. In allergies, the body reacts to allergens present in the environment. Those allergens do not cause a problem to healthy peoples. Some people may develop an allergy when the person is exposed to an allergen ( plant pollen, peanuts, strawberries, etc.). Whenever an allergic person is exposed to allergens, the level of IgE increases rapidly.
Total IgE test is suggested when a person has periodic symptoms due to some allergic reaction.
